tempted to buy xc60
hi everyone ( newbie just signed up), it's time for me to change the family motor(Ford s max, 155000 miles on the clock)myself and the mrs have been looking at motors for weeks , regularly going to available car for a look around, she prefers the higher driving position, to be honest never thought about a Volvo we've looked at Toyota rav4's Honda crv's Mazda cx5's BMW x3's and BMW active tourer's but today we noticed they had a couple of xc60's in and we both liked them so after getting home I've been doing a bit of reading about them (I like the 2 litre d4 r design manual. probably 15 plate) and there seems to be a lot of problems with them and very poor reliability issues very low in the tables for it, so I thought only place to find out the truth would be an owners forum. read a few things on here and it does look like there are problems.
any honest opinions would be greatly received thanks |

Only issue I have had from new was the well documented EGR issue on the 2ltr VEA engine and that was remedied by Volvo under warranty, Been faultless ever since and now clocked 87k on a 2015 auto. I was a die hard manual driver before I tried the 8 speed auto with paddles and it's a peach. Don't use the paddles at all just push the stick to sport mode and the gearbox reacts accordingly, so I would say give the 8 speed auto a try. The 2 ltr is also very economical averaging 45mpg pretty much all the time.
Having ditched my 5 Series 2.5 money pit I haven't looked back. Just check that the motor has had the EGR replaced. Mine is the 181hp which is ample for my needs but they can be chipped up to 235+hp as they do with the XC90 using the same engine. Others will be along shortly with their views. |

I have a 17 VEA D4 manual Rdesign lux nav...... no issues except a parking sensor replaced under warranty.
Get 45/47 mpg normally (don’t do round town driving) according to computer (not sure how overly optimistic it is) the run out models all got some extra kit, privacy glass, bendy headlights, nav and a few other bits. Recommend parking sensors front and rear it fills a car park space to the max! Look for a car with a service plan 3&5 year were offered as sweeteners and Volvo do software updates and roadside assintece if you have it dealer serviced each year. I now regret the manual gearbox...... the FWD VEA 2.0D with 8 speed auto is better IMO on everything but fuel park the left foot and go.... Some bits of kit you might expect can be missing from even top spec trim so study the options fitted carefully and Volvo dealer from reg or vin can tell you all the factory fitted options Adaptive cruise is one that was part of a pack and worth looking for if you donalot of motorway driving as is blind spot warning (my car has neither and I wish it did) others like parking sensors or cameras can be retro fitted |

The 8 speed is a delight and as a person who loves driving it has enhanced my driving enjoyment. I tow a classic car to shows all over the country and my XC60 does this with aplomb and in great comfort. |

I've had my xc60 with the winter pack and 8 speed auto for over 3 years now and it has never had anything go wrong with it.
The auto box is the best thing since sliced bread and the acceleration on kickdown is unbelievable for a 2 ton motor. The only thing I wish I had specificed would be the heated steering wheel,- that wheel gets awful cold first thing of a winters morning. Saying that, it is going in for a factory recall in the morning, something to do with a fuel line liable to split. Small job according to the dealer. Unfortunately, it is on a contract and I have to let it go, so will be getting a VW Passat estate GT soon, so goodbye Volvo forum!!!

Warranty transferable so up to 7 year will have the lowest risk of unexpected bills.... Don’t buy an SUV for cheap motoring a small hatch back with long warranty will be far far cheaper...... |
