Thumbs up Throttle Housing air in-take clean

After visiting gatos on Sunday (he's a good chap) we cleaned the air intakes and butterfly flap in the throttle housing on my wife's V40 (petrol). Credit to gatos for helping with this... it's now running at 40 mpg on a long run!

I've done the same today on my own V40 - it is worthwhile. I used carb cleaner lightly sprayed into the inner housing and onto a clean cloth to wipe the butterfly clean, particularly the edges where it seals. Loads of black stuff can easily be wiped away and dissolves in carb cleaner - don't use tissue or fibrous cloth etc as this will mess up the mechanism. And, wait for the carb cleaner to completely evaporate (lightly wedge rag under butterfly for 30 mins or so) before starting up else the engine gets a bit confused and tends to fast idle for a while.

This simple clean up makes a real difference. My mpg has improved to 42 mpg on a long run today. Cheers gatos!
