Default Horns!!!!

I heard that by moving the horns on the 850 turbo models would give more power?!?!?!
I was very sceptical about this until the other day when I thought that id just pull em out to see what happened!
I was AMAZED with the results!!! My T5-R seems to pull more uniformly through the rev range (once warmed up) and just seems to be a bit more responsive too!
Now all this may be happening in my head so please tell me if im going mad or if this is the cheapest mod anyone can make to their car?????

I didn't notice any difference, but left them under the bumper to keep them out of the way. I still might get the Dremmel out & remove the centre bar just to get even more cool air in?

I moved the horns on my car last weekend. Haven't noticed any difference yet - however physics suggests that it should have an improvement - and pretty much every enthusiast I have met has moved them, so there's probably something in it.

I think the sudden slight drop in ambient temp will account more for the 'improved performance' than moving horns.

Cutting the plastic out for more air flow - don't bother. Just do some calculations on the 'increased' area for air flow.

The butt dyno can really give out some stange figs when it wants too.

If you want more cooling get the Atech intercooler or equivalent from TME etc.

I'm with you Karl - it's the temp and pressure I'm afraid ... Even my doggy old 855 T5 has been noticably quicker the last few days.

Not that I want to pi$$ on your horn parade but ... THEORETICALLY it may improve matters but in reality there are many other factors that affect performance far more.

I totally agree here, intake temps are the turbo cars biggest enemy.

The difference between a drive on a cool clear night, and at 12 midday, in the Rover is astonoshing, the volvo's seem to have much better intercoolers, quite frankly mine looks weedy compared to the T4's, it's thinner than mine, but has much more surface area. The Rovers too is right behind the catch for the bonnet, and sits above the radiator, about 6inches max away from the manifold, turbo, etc which is all mounted at the front of the engine, a crap design I think you'll agree. Working on a DIY IC spray just now for it for 1/4 mile racing.

It has beem cooler the last few days, and I have noticed a difference, if the saem applies in England, I thinl you have your answer, in theory you will gert more airflow and it may be a bit better on motorways etc, but I would expect the increase to be nticable enough to "feel" if all circumstances were the same bar the area the air hits on the intercooler. Dont get me wrong, it is still worth doing, some of the Rover peeps remove the catch and fit bonnet pins etc to get a wee slat for the intercooler to sit behind. But it isnt a blistering mod, if it's as easy as moving the horns, it's a good one in my book. Every little counts.
