V40 1.9D starting problems
My daughter's V40 has the same cold starting problem. The glowplugs have been changed, a new high-capacity battery has been fitted and the alternator output voltage has been checked okay.
When the car is running, it's fine with no loss of power or flat spots. But when cold it will often not start, although the engine turns over fine. After a few minutes, it'll start okay. This is not the Renault diesel engine, but the Volvo one as fitted to the 1999 cars. Does any one have any suggestions, please? Graham |

It could be a faulty fuel shut-off solenoid on the diesel pump which is temporarily sticking in the closed position and then not opening fully.
Get someone to turn the ignition key to position 11 while you listen for the solenoid to click open. If it doesn't click straight away you've found the problem. Micro |
