S40 Bi-Fuel Power Upgrades Possible?
Being the proud owner of my 2002 S40 1.8SE Bi-Fuel saloon I'd like some advice on getting a little bit more power from it. Other than a slight issue on another post the car is great but it feels slightly unpowered for my driving (I'm not a boy racer though!) so I'd like to know if there any upgrades to enhance my enjoyment of this car?
I recently serviced it with stock Volvo items (oil filter, plugs etc) but replaced the air filter with a Pipercross one and have fitted a "cat back" one piece stainless exhaust from Longlife (www.longlife.co.uk), albeit a quiet one, to increase airflow but is there more I can do? I'm not after some firebreathing T5R (well yes I am actually but the wife says no!) but abit more underfoot would be nice. Can you get this car remapped or chipped etc? Thanks for any advice Last edited by phase3uk; Jan 15th, 2009 at 19:05. Reason: Spelling! |

To be to brutally honest, you are wasting your money trying to get decent performance from a n/a 1.8 engine. If you want more grunt, buy a car with a turbo.
If you want decent power from a n/a engine, you will need to flow the head, change the cams and remap the ecu, you'll still be lacking torque though. Jez

I had my s60 bifuel RICAd last week and it's made a big improvement to torque, acceleration and driveability. I'm really pleased with it although it was expensive even with the 25% discount for a car over 3 years. Nevertheless, I would do it again given what I know, no regrets. The big difference is the not having to change gears as often and, on hills I had to go down to second for, I can accelerate up in 3rd.
