Default 440 door panel removal, heater knobs

hi.

i wanted to change the old door speakers on my grandmothers '91 440.
the interior's still in pretty good shape so i didn't want to just recklessly start prying off stuff with the danger that i'd accidentally break off mounting tabs or clips or something. so i was wondering if anyone could post or point me a step-by-step on getting the interior door panels off to get at the original door speakers?

thx a bunch!

air

ps also, i noticed that the little end knobs on the heater/ventilation slide controls are pretty worn down. from the looks of it, they were once white and have green leds or something (at least they glow green when the lights are on). where can i get replacements? thx.

hi there
you will find that there is one of the heater knobe that you want on ebay for £1.99+postage .so just type in volvo 440 and have a look.
get yourself a haynes manual it tells you everything you need to know for the door panel and is very simple to do if you are gentle.

On my 440 (96 model, mk2)

The grills over the speaker just pop out. Use a flat head screw driver to pop the grill out.

Not sure if its the same on the mk1?

I think you still need to remove the card to get the speaker out though!

There are screws under the pull handle and one under the handle to open the door. Might be one or two round the edge aswell. You then pull out at the bottom and push upwards as it's squeezed in between the door frame and glass.

No, I did not have to remove the door card to change speakers.

Pop the grill out

Then there is 4 screws holding the speaker in.(Which also hold the door card on)

Unless you're changing the wiring too, you don't need to take the door card off, you should just be able to prize the speaker grill off with a flat bladed screwdriver. It's only the 480 that needs to have the door card removed to change speakers.

Also, heater knobs on eBay are a rip off - they cost 60p each from Volvo. eBay isn't always a bargain! They don't have LED's, just little pinholes for green light to shine through, and new they're light grey in colour. A worth while replacement for any interior!

It sounds obvious but try your volvo dealer for the knobs 3414933 the illumination on the end is fibre optic ..
