Question and now for... engine?!?

A copy paste from another, sorry, but I have no time to write it down properly.
I'm sitting at my drive with engine still too warm to touch and I'm trying to figure out where do I start..

Repost:

...sitting with idling engine- don't ask why, the engine started to producecsoubd best described as "thudding". With shakes. Opened hood- engine shaking. By ear- every revolution producing single thud. I was about half a mile from home, made it on energency lights/10mph/rev max 1000.

Made it. That's half success
Now I need to find out what is it.
I've got mere 2 weeks to either fix it or get new car (financially impossible) before " the big trip"

I'll keep adding whatever I find.

Seems not to vecrelated to gearbox- whatever position gearknob is in, thuds the same.
Obviously frequency increases with rpm, but not with speed (been coasting for few metres)
Checking belts now.

Assume it does it when parked and idling?

What car are we taking about D5?

Sorry, forgot.
Car: 03 V70, B5244S(no turbo) 170bhp, auto, 264k miles.

It started when I was parked and idling, accompanied me all the way home.

Can belt and aux belt look OK, as I'm there, I'm about to get to spark plugs and check these.

Sounds a bit like a plug loose, or out?

Do you have vida to have a look what the car thinks is wrong?

Plugs as far as I can say seem ok- will need to find plug wrench in the morning, but all seem to sit tight, theres no sign of anything shooting out from underneath- chambers nice and clean.

No, I don't have Vida.
I do have cheapo LMsometing reader and Torque app, I'm trying to connect without starting engine literally as I write.

Looks likevi may not be going to work tomorrow... Not without the car.

How does one count cylinders? Starting from cambelt side or the other?
