.
Have you actually taken the timing belt cover off to have a look? It’s held on by 1 bolt and a couple of clips if I remember.

Perhaps it's more convenient to sell it for parts and get another one. Replacing the engine with a used one is risky and costly. The engine is without a doubt damaged, this is very common on the D5 and no one survived to this

Yes, agree. I've had no luck with this car so I'm not forking out any more cash on it. Might contact local scrappies tomorrow.

Anyone know how to syphon the fuel out, got nearly a full tank of diesel left! Got a load of pipe from work. If you can't just shove the pipe down the fuel flap, then I guess you can access the tank from the boot?

Oh, and is a 2008 V70 2.0D SE Sport worth going to see? It looks tidy, MOT online checker has all passes and it has a partial service history. Got 178,000 on the clock though. It's at a dealers. I've messaged them asking if any of the stamps are for having the timing belt changed

To get fuel out, undo filter under car and put a suitable catch container under it. Put ignition on to run the pump.

A 2008 V70 is going to be a first year production car - the V70 was redesigned in 2008. I would probably skip the 2008-2009 V70. These got a few issues such as the cabin blower - very difficult to access
