Default clutch cable......

Please can anyone help, I have spend two days, and ripped my hands to bits trying to fit a new clutch cable on my 440GLE, try as I may I cannot get the nipple to go into the hole at the top of the pedal, the cable lines up ok but thats as far as I can get working with one hand while laying in the road with the door sill digging in my ribs, any advise would be appreciated.

Not sure if its the same as the 480, on which in desperation i removed the cross shaft, took the pedal out, connected cable then refitted it all. trouble is, that sounds easy, but still took me 2 hours to do.

That's what I ended up doing too when I did mine a few years ago. I felt there should have been an easier way but I never found one.
