Need advice. Out of options.
I have been struggling with car for weeks now. Can’t find solution.
2005 v50 2.0d. Weeks ago my tachometer stopped working, and car would be almost impossible to start when hot. And then car died completely. It would charge out through night and all kind of electrical lights etc. Error code show no faulty crankshaft, so I fitted new one. Without change, the car would start, tachometer working for few moments, then it stops and then drops to 0. I was advised to fit new ecu, done that, also without changes. The car can be started but after while tachometer stops working and then it all goes crazy and it dies. And it charge battery completely by itself. I attached the fault reading. Hope you guys can give some advice or directions. Big thanks |

Sounds like a wire short to me. More common than you may think a work colleague had it happen on his 14 plate TTs this week!
I would have a good look around all of the major junctions and points of closure and heat. I shorted my C30 electrics and suffered similar symptoms recently including the tacho etc. You can do an ecu reset by removing the battery terminal for approx 10 mins. That is how I brought mine back to life. I agree with Clan though a professional diagnostic service is the way to go. You can look yourself for free too

It shows crankshaft sensor fault. And when engine reaches normal temperature it dies out. After it cools little bit, it runs till reaches normal t again. Will try official dealer, but I don’t think they will tell something new, cause the fault stays the same-crankshaft sensor fault |

Where exactly is this sensor located? Could it be option, that dual mass flywheel is bad and it’s causing problems?

Personally I’d opt for Clans advice and take to main dealer otherwise you may well change dual mass and clutch unit purely by convincing yourself that it’s the cause. Out of curiosity what has pointed you in the direction of that? Is there other symptoms of the dual mass starting to go?

the dual mass flywheel may need replacing, but it is not the cuase of your non run issue.
I would focus on that otherwise you may spend a lot of money on flywheels and other components and be no nearer to a solution to the primary problem |

Are you completely cutting this option out? Or it may work? |
