Default Remote Start - defrosting

The first week of really cold weather is when we have changed into a MY2019 V60 Momentum Pro from our previous XC60 which had a heated screen. Our new car has a heads up display so therefore no heated front screen. I had thought that using remote start through On Call would defrost the front screen after 15 mins but the results are fairly uninspiring. Back screen and mirrors even the heated steering wheel can be set to auto start.

I wonder if there’s a trick I’m missing. Tonight I’m going to set the Climate temp to high and direct airflow to the screen before I switch the engine off for the last time. I read an article which suggested it might simply come on at the previous setting.

Anyone got a technique that works?

Hi Ewen,

I can’t answer your question directly, but there is a separate sub forum for the new V60 - it is a couple down the list from this one and is for all the SPA model Volvos.

You should get a good response for this query and any others from members with models similar to yours.

Hope that helps.

" Our new car has a heads up display so therefore no heated front screen. "

I find that astonishing. There is no reason for it, apart from saving money at the expense of safety. For many years heated front screens have been available ( from 1998 or thereabouts ? Over 20 years). We have an aftermarket GPS speedo heads up display on my wifes Mazda 3 which has a heated screen.

My pal's Mazda 3 uses a flip-up plastic screen to serve as the projection screen for his heads-up display although newer models project onto the actual windscreen like the V60.

The Volvo salesman explained the omission on the basis that the heated screen is thicker than a 'normal' windscreen utilising two layers of glass which would have caused a double image on the heads-up display.

As good as the heads up display is - and I must admit I like it - in this recent cold snap I would happily swap it for the front heated screen.

Thanks - I'm extremely new on here, and given your advice have looked for the suggested sub-forum but can't immediately see it....

Welcome

The forum is here: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=201
The name hasn't been updated to include V60, but those cars all share the same platform/architecture.

My parents have a new V60 with HUD and no heated window - we always thought it was odd because they also have an XF which has a HUD with a heated window!

I too was disappointed I couldn't have both coming from a JLR product which could have both together if specified. No idea why Volvo have either or. I do miss my heated screen.
