Rear noise diff or haldex ? Where to repair ?
Good evening everyone,
Now after repairing my AWD mechanical faillure. The AWD is working ! However, I have a noise coming from the rear now. I don't know if it is the haldex unit or the diff itself. The diff seems commun with freelander 2 who suffer from diff faillure as a commun issue. Anyone know some good company that can repair diff or haldex unit ? I still need to investigate but so far I can hear a noise if I move the input flange. Anyone else experienced this kind of issue ? I have a video of the noise when I move the flange if this can help someone. Thanks all |

My thought process ... 1st I'd check the quality / colour of the diff oil. After 85k mine looked almost new. I've not come across my diff issues here. The colour might give a clue to the diff state. There's more metal bits (bearings n gears) which are more prone to noise than the hydraulics in the haldex which is just a series of clutch plates which at the right time join the front back prop to the rear diff. As u are under there check the state of the haldex oil. Mine was horible and I flushed oil through 5+ times before I started to look reasonable when removed. One thing I learned is volvo wanted 10 hrs to remove the diff ( 2004 v70 AWD R) my issue was haldex dem not rear diff.
Sorry don't know any 3rd party repairers. Good luck.. Cheers Bob. |

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I did the service of the haldex unit couple of month ago and replaced the pressure sensor. Oil was not too bad. I replaced the rear diff oil. Oil was not bad either however I have a small seal leak. Apparently diff input bearing are know to be weak. Same issue on land rover freelander 2 |
