Default Replacing brake hoses

I managed to shear off the nut on the rear offside steel brake pipe, while I was changing all 4 brake hoses, on my 16 year old V70 D5
I ordered a new pipe from SMW Volvo, part No 30636368, £45 - and a brake pipe bending tool from Halfords.
The lesson I would pass on is , when it is clear using the 2 spanners are not going to loosen the union - USE HEAT. using heat on the other rear wheel made the job much easier. I have to thank my good friend Dancake for his help.
When I finished bleeding the brakes, I applied- Ensis Fluid G -to all 4 brake unions, as I don't want to have this problem again in another 16 years.

Jude

Sorry ,I forgot to thank Simon (Cheshired5) for his his PM

Health and Safety Note.

If you are going to apply heat to the pipe union it's essential to vent the hose. The heat will boil the brake fluid rapidly and can cause a violent rupture of the hose spraying you with very hot fluid.

Just cut the hose in half with snips or a hacksaw as you need top replace it anyway.

I was doing my brake lines just recently.
Even bought a flare nut wrench but when I put it on it was too loose so I went with regular wrench.

I was afraid to do the rears (for the flare nut) myself so got a decent garage to do it for me and I got the car back without any serious braking power. They said the mechanic couldn't get air out no matter what he tried. I had a show so I couldn't waste another minute and decided to take the trip to theatere.

Next day I decided that he probably got the reservoir empty and air in from the front so I'll just bleed it myself. When I removed the rear tires then it was obvious what was wrong - you can tell from the attached pictures

Rear flares are a bit difficult to undo but you have to undo the bracket from the body to get a little more room.

Ha Ha. I've actually done that myself many years ago, and it took me all day and much swearing before I worked out what I had done.

I won't spoil the puzzle for others.

Raise you hands if you’ve never done something similar...

Yet another reason to just do all brake work yourself. Even the experts make bone-headed mistakes.

I can confirm that this in fact happens! I applied heat to the solid hose near the join with the flex. After 20s of heat - the flex hose flew off and hot fluid went all over. Best to relieve pressure first by taking caliper end of hose off). Also...wear safety glasses!!!!

Fitted to the wrong sides ? Bleed screw should be above flexible hose ? (Orientation of photos doesn't really help )
