S60 D5 2002 Fuel Consumption Accuracy
Since I bought this car in December 2013 I have checked the fuel consumption manually by filling the tank and monitoring the fuel consumed to refill it and have calculated figures of 44.0 and 46.2 mpg. The computer has shown average consumptions of between 48 and 51mpg over the same distances.
Do others find that the computer is always about 10% optimistic? |

Yes that's what folk generally find on here with optimistic fuel computers.
Just so you know, our forum for our model years is here http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=19 The newer car owners may set the dogs on you for posting here

My own 05MY S60 D5 was about 10% optimistic.
My current '11MY S60 D3 is slightly over 5% optimistic. Some new D4 owners on here are reporting 100% accuracy.

Mine is 5-10% over optimistic. I've always thought it a shame that you can not manually adjust the system to bring it in line with reality. For example if the real figure is always 5% less than the computer then within the system you should be able to alter the computer to read 5% lower. Clearly this is not an exact system but the computer is there to give you an idea of the mpg so you should be able to tweak it yourself to correct it. If you find it reads correctly then you would leave it alone.
Maybe this is too simplistic but I think it is not the worst idea.

My last couple of fill ups, my trip computer has been pessimistic, when compared with the values Fuelly is producing!
But otherwise, yes, it's generally been optimistic by a few mpg on my 2013 D3. |
