Ah. Liiiittle problem then

Would a greenhouse work?

The other option was if I could manage to dismantle the clusters (i.e. melt the glue and prize out just the indicator lens) I could buy some aftermarket later 240 clear lenses and dismantle them and fit them to the lights on Thor, but that could be asking for trouble...

No.
Less UV (glass filters out some of it) but more heat. So you'd end up with melted, but still orange, indicators!

Yes indeed... asking for it. Could be a good way to ruin 4 lamps

Steve, are you sure you can't get clear lenses for your car? Seen various 200's with clears - probably from Radicast... although if I'm thinking right your car probably has skinnier rear clusters compared to the later 200's?

Hi Steve, yeah mine are the 79/80/81 5 panel tails lights, later 240s had the 6 panels...

Seen these on JP Styling. Won't the 6 panel fit on Thor?

6 panels will fit...but it will involve butchering, and that would be a shame.

Radicast / Reproglas DID used to do clear lenses (but they weren't cheap), which you fitted into existing clusters, so that would be the answer. However, they appear to have stopped doing that type of product, and don't answer emails...so who knows what's happening there at the moment?

The other option would be to cut up a set of the 6-panels with clears, and glue the lenses into a set of 5-panels with the orange lenses cut out. I do have a box full of 5-panels doing nothing, but it seems a shame to cut up a brand new set of 6-panels with clears....

cheers

James

Speaking of Radicast...the "bare" lenses (except for BMWs...?!) appear to have gone, but how about these...

For Steve:

For John:

For me, when I get a VW 1.9TDI powered 145...

cheers

Steve

This might not be what you want but....

Aren't you a member on Retro-Rides? Have a look on there as knightmares (of small-block Ford powered cortina fame) had a 240 for a while and he painted the rear lights on it with red candy paint so the whole cluster was red, sort of like a US-spec light. Not the clear look you were after but it looked really good.
