Default '93 960 OBD breakout box?

What socket do I use to retrive error codes for the ignition from a '93 960 ( US spec, if that makes a difference).
All of the books say to use socket 6 on test box A, but there is no wire hooked to socket 6 on box a in this thing. It is an open hole.

The available sockets are on box A: 1, 2, 3.
and on box B: 2, 5, 6.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As your car has Motronic 1.8 system socket 6 has no function on your car. Only socket 2 is used. There are three selectable modes of code retention. They are selected by pushing the button on the unit, for at least one second each press, one, two or three times and reading the codes for each mode. If you obtain the Chilton manual C72302 you will find instructions for reading codes on page 4-28 and the relevant code meanings on page 4-31, left hand side.

All the best, Peter

Thanks Peter, I've been gazing blankly at the Volvo Green manual for that thing all day and it didn't make sense until now.
Thats what I get for trying to work out in the sun when it's 112 deg f ( about 44.8 deg C ) outside. I'll be glad when winter gets here.

Thanks------
