Binding brake - red hot. What other damage?
Hi folks,
I have a 440XI 1.8 Auto that's only done just over 10k from new(!) which has spent 99.9% of its life sitting in my garage. (The final car my mum and dad owned so I hung on to it to preserve it.) I've just taken it out for a spin this evening to keep things running (which I do from time to time) but found when I got back that the OSF wheel was smoking! It was *stinking* hot - couldn't put my hand too close to it as it was like being in front of a 3-bar electric fire! I'm assuming I've got a binding brake even though it seemed to drive fairly reasonably without signs of pulling over but I'm wondering what else might be likely to have been damaged and what people think I should check. I'm thinking calliper, pads, flexi-hose, disc, wheel bearing, ball joints, drive shaft, steering rack. Anything else I should check (and how best to go about checking them)? What do we think the likelihood is for damage to each of those components? Ta, D.

The caliper is seized, so count that in. Probably both to be fair.
Other that that, I'd budget a set of front discs and pads and complete brake fluid flush as it'll have boiled and be way past it's best now anyway.
