Default T8 Heat Exchanger

Hi there,

I bought a 2016 T8 in August from a main dealer under Volvo Selekt. Soon after purchase, I got an error light and booked it into my local dealer. They diagnosed that the Heat Exchanger needed replacing - all covered under warranty.

Except that they have not been able to get the part. I've had the supplying dealer, servicing dealer and now Volvo UK on to it, but Sweden will not come back with a delivery for the part.

Has anyone had similar issues?

Thanks and Happy New Year,
Charles

Sounds like a lot of hassle. Have they given you a loaner? If not give it back as not fit for purpose.

Never heard of this before, so don't think a usual fault.

Where is it? In the petrol powered heater, or in the cabin heat controls? I guess a T8 must have 2 heat exchangers?

What are the symptoms? Loss of coolant or just a cold cabin?

Vehicle still on the road so no loaner.

Symptoms aren't that obvious other than the engine warning light (probably because the car is new to me) - only that it doesn't recharge so much whilst on the move, and the petrol engine is noisier (apparently a known side-effect of the issue according to the dealer).

You sure they said heat exchanger? Not starter/generator?

Heat exchanger controls battery temperature. I'd be asking for my money back because it'll get less likely as time passes and you keep driving the car.

Are we thinking heat exchanger here as in a cooling radiator then?

I was thinking heat exchanger as in separating the glycol loop of the engine and the hot air in the cabin....
