Default VOLVO 940 2.0GL SAL - Whining

A Whining noise has developed from my 940 which sounds very similar to a jet engine! The noise increases with road speed regardless of what gear im in, in neutral or if the clutch is engaged or disingaged.
About 6 weeks ago i had a new clutch fitted to the car and i am wondering if this may be related( Perhaps something was disturbed during the fitting process???)

The gearbox level is fine as is the rear axle level. The noise appears to be coming from near the front as opposed to the back.
It's not a wheelbearing noise.....Please Help.

As the propshaft has to be partially removed to enable a clutch swap it is quite possible that it has been replaced out of it's correct alignment. It is also possible that the gearbox mounting is failing allowing the propshaft to contact something it should not.

Take it back to the fitter who did the job on the clutch and tell him about the noise which started after he had completed the job and would he kindly correct the problem.

All the best, Peter.

I am getting the same exact thing with my newly purchased '91 740. It doesn't do it all the time, usually only as I am just starting out in the morning.

Is this something urgent I should have looked at before it causes more problems down the road?

When you take it back to where you got the clutch done, suggest that they check the centre propshaft bearing.
This is well known problem.
It was probably approaching it`s demise and then being disturbed (moved through a greater angle than normal) finished it off.
Don`t just let them lubricate it, if it`s noisy it should be replaced.
If, as has been suggested, the shaft has been mis-aligned it could cause a vibration, but the whining suggests a worn bearing.
Colin.
