Wow, that's odd, is that the norm for these versions of Volvo ?

I replaced the rear pads a few weeks backand they were on the metal just about...still passed the mot with just an advisory though!!

Looks like I need to keep a closer eye on the rears and see how they go.
Does your parking brake let go smoothly?

They introduced the torque vector braking or whatever they call it with these cars, kind of stability control using the brakes. I don't drive my car particularly hard, scrubbing speed off mainly by backing off the throttle early and coming down through the gears. I know some people will have a comment about gears for go brakes for slow, brakes are cheaper than gearboxes etc... in 38 years of motoring yet to have a gearbox let go.

Anywho, I've found the rear pads wear on my car about 25,000 miles, fronts I get about 50,000. New discs with every second set of pads.

The parking brake is smooth, I give a slight blip of throttle and release the clutch slightly to get the handbrake off before moving off. The car is parked on a level driveway, I leave it in gear and don't use the handbrake. In winter we get double digit Celsius below zero I'm too old to be scrambling around releasing handbrakes in the freezing cold, I do use the park brake when stopping at traffic lights or whenever I'm going to be at a standstill for a minute or two and knock the car into neutral. The handbrake gets used every time I drive the car. I'm not one for sitting with my foot on the foot brake.

UPDATE: OK so the struts aren't as bad as I though based on your feedback. It's clear they're on their way to strut heaven so I've ordered a pair of OEM from Autodoc for £17.37 each.

As for the backing plates their dirty (brake dust) but not corroded so I'll just leave them.

ALSO my missus cleaned and treated the leather. My dad is gonna get a very polished car next week
