I agree with you BigV that on identical cars up untill very recently that the manual will win out every time but the latest technology that is fitted to the latest million pound super cars will filter its way down to more mundane cars in the not too distant future and this technology will make autos quicker and render manual gear changing all but obsolete. Even paddle shift changing will probably get phased out as there will be no need for it other than to give a sense of control over your driving style.

The auto "R" has 50 nm less torque ( 350 nm as opposed to 400 nm for the manual ... )

well yes , thats going to get it to 60 quicker than a T5 where the power is limited until it starts to get traction over 50 mph .. there is not a huge weight increase with the AWD system . even in the dry with a late T5 you see the orange DSTC Light flash up to around 50 mph when you cant even detect slip yourself ...

You don't lose that 50nm torque through the drivetrain, its as Clan said, its limited because of the drivetrain, Volvo will limit it due to being an auto box. You do however lose more power through an AWD system as opposed to a FWD/RWD set up.
Extra weight in the drivetrain is negated by the 74 horsepower extra and the traction it allows. |
