Really strange 'thunk' sound when going over hills etc
This is hard one to diagnose so I really hope someone can help.
My XC90 T5 Auto makes quite a sharp 'thunk' sound seemingly coming from the front quite often. Hard to recreate but happens on my drive home when I creast a large hill and start to go down the other side - i get a 'thunk' coming from what feels like the footwell. Also happens when coming to the bottom of a hill and move from brake to accelerator. The noise has been going on for months. Volvo told me they can't see anything wrong underneath and can't recreate it but it will happen a few times on a 20 minute drive so I guess they didn't look too hard. As it seems to be getting more intense I'm getting more worried. Any suggestions what to check? |

Thanks Jeff, the symptoms are very similar to a worn engine mount but the car has been doing this since 18 months old and the engine mounts look new. That's why I'm finding this so hard to diagnose.
Volvo said it was the driveshaft and replaced it with a new one but its made no difference (and I don't understand why the driveshaft should fail on a newish car under 6,000 miles). |
