I believe it.

Once did an"economy run"in the '86 745a (B230k), achieved just over 40mpg.

What is your experience, and how's the rebirth going OBV?

Jon.

I want to change my original vote dagnabbit!

With a T cam the highest ever was 33 mpg. (sitting on the motorway)

With an A cam the highest ever was 32 mpg. (sitting on the motorway)

Now with a stump pulling M cam I've just hit a new PB of 36 mpg, rather easily it seems as that wasn't all motorway. Oh, and that's with a clapped out air filter, dizzy cap, and HT leads.

Curiously, with this cam the fuel cut off seems to happen at 1600 rpm (that's right around 32 mph indicated in 4th gear). Although I think the cut off is related to road speed, and maybe the reason I didn't notice this before is because the engine sounded like it laboured a bit in 4th at that speed.

The most fuel efficient speed for my car on the motorway appears to be 67 mph indicated.

I can't remember what I originally quoted but today only getting 26.2mpg,Probably due to the twin exhaust and the lovely sound it makes when revving high Lol.
It really isn't that loud and unless I crawl around in to high a gear or get up into higher revs you wouldn't notice it.

Which is just how I like it as I don't have to listen to a constant roar, only when I want to hear it.
Regards Brian.

I have a 740GL 230K engine with AW71 autobox. 20MPG the usual within the city and ~25MPG on motorway with the old dingy Pierburg 2b5. I installed a dual-barrel Solex 35/35 with dual gearwheel yesterday. I check the MPGs at the future

DWM- 42.9mpg, I don't want to wee on peoples figures, but 4.72L is a bit low accuracy, if you are just using fill ups its easy to be 0.5L out. Still 38mpg is pretty good.

Baggy- my experience and common knowledge on econmodders is that economy reduces with increased speed and revs. 50 is alot better than 70.

I haven't tried any comparisons yet but I do expect that spark efficiency at low rpm is important given the difference in heasitation with a clean dizzy.

I intend on going down the 'hypermiling' route and getting absolute maximum MPG through a combination of basic modifications and very careful driving. I'm hopeful of hitting 40mpg, but fully expect about 30mpg to be my starting point (60 miles daily, 90% motorway and a-road).

I like a challenge!
I bought it 6 weeks ago but waited for my insurance policy to expire to start afresh. Started driving today so will get early indications of fuel economy over the next few days. My commute remains unchanged so my predictions of 30mpg as a starting point are staying for now.

First 160ish miles, 32.5mpg. No special effort other than sitting marginally below the speed limit. Very happy with that as a starting point
