It’s as simple as making something user friendly

Always fancied a Judge Dred Taxi ( long story but briefly got on the set of the film during filming back in the 90s, the film ones were built on Landrovers)
I pulled up at the lights behind a Hyundai Ioniq 5 last night and was impressed by how the designers had used origami as an inspiration, beautiful sharp crease lines on all of the corners, KIA EV9 is from the same school what happened to the concept of rounded jellymoulds for efficiency?

If you could just cut back on smokey old heaps that deliver pizzas, parcels etc etc, that would be a start. £50k delivery van? Really? Very very few places to get it fixed and so on… it’ll never happen mate. Until some level of sensibility is achieved, it’ll never gain traction.
If you could design a battery that took 15 mins to charge and give you a sensible range, they’d sell like hot cakes. Until such a time lands, nothing will happen.

Where I work now we have an electric Citroen Dispatch*, we don't go outside of Milton Keynes area, so about 50 square miles, which means the 200 mile range is adequate. The actual range can drop quite rapidly but that depends on the driving style and around the grid roads of MK, dual carriageways with a roundabout every half mile, there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy the smooth acceleration power . As always with electric (or any) vehicle it's 'horses for courses' but it works pretty well for us.

*quick search and Citroen DispatchE available for about £40k so why is the Volvo EX90 twice as expensive? Can't help but think someone in marketing has worked out what a sucker will pay in order to set the price.

Yeah... some of the issues with electric cars is that some manufacturers want to make them look a bit wired, especially Hyundai. The Ioniq 5 is clear made to look a bit 1980's, which appeals to some, but in 5-10 years time it will have the residual value of a half eaten pizza just like the Benneton VW Polo's. And the DRL's on the front of some of the Tucson models seem to be try to recreate a vagazzle that would look good on Janet Street Porter (i.e. awful...).

Looks don't determine aerodynamic efficiency. Which one of the following designs do you think is more aerodynamic?

Yes, the Volvo! The sleek and legendary R32 GTR is a veritable brick in cutting through the air, with a drag coefficient of 0.40! The Volvo by comparison is relatively dolphin-like at 0.34.

The Ioniq 5 has a drag coefficient of 0.288, that's really good. The latest R35 GTR is an astonishing 0.26.

A Volvo 940 is the same as the original jellymould Sierra believe it or not.

Those Cd numbers by themselves are like comparing apples, oranges and coconuts.

The reference area (front of the car) is not the same for each of the body types therefore comparing say a Cortina and Sierra is not comparing like with like. The Cd number is only applicable to the shape it has been tested on.

You may as well compare an SUVs Euro NCAP rating directly with a city car. They may both have 5* rating but they are not the same.

Judge Dredd being an extremely negative sociopolitical statement ... yes, it's pretty relevant that SUV's look like something out of Judge Dredd.
