broken wheel bolt/stud
unfortunately it seems someone has successfully chiseled off one of my locking wheel nuts and attempted to do the same on the regular one. having taken off the damaged nut and attempting to replace the nut the bolt/stud (sorry but i have been getting confused as to what it is) sheared off upon torquing.
at first i looked on net and saw some videos of replacing just the bolt/stud but so far every garage/auto parts place i have gone to doesn't sell the bolt/stud and only a few the hub itself went to volvo dealership and hub is over £200 for just the part! tried a volvo parts website and over the phone he told me a lot of aftermarket hubs cause problems with abs sensors? seems a lot of hassle for just a small part! any advice on replacing just the bolt or if it cant be done on whether to get an aftermarket hub or one from breakers and if so do i need to get it with abs sensors? is this a job for any old mechanic/garage or should i go volvo/independent specialist? its a 2010 v50 drive 1.6 all advice really appreciated! thanks |

You can just bash the studs out/in with a hammer and if you visit a breakers or dismantlers you can get one from there. I've not tried myself but was once told the Mazda 3 studs will fit and they can be purchased from Mazda, don't know if it is true though.
I've helped members out in the past with spares I had but no longer got any, maybe worth asking if anyone is changing a bearing and can knock out a stud for you. Maybe even a visit to your local dealer and if they have recently done a bearing change they might let you have the old bearing or knock a stud out for you too. Or even try a Ford dealer. Good luck, |

Try Huddersfield Volvo Breakers. If they have one, it definitely won't cost £200
I'm confused though, as to why someone would take a chisel to a regular bolt. Don't wheel thieves have wheel braces around your parts?

Thanks I tried several breakers none will do just bolt only hub for around £70. Went to independent who said bolts cant be knocked out. Not sure why it was chiselled only thing I can think of is I was told a few of the nuts are swolken and pretty tight. Not that confident with cars but found a garage that will sort out new hub and fitted for 200. Not sure if thats good price or not?

Believe me they can be just knocked out and very easily too. Best post up asking if anyone is changing a C30/S40/V50/C70 bearing and can let you have one of the old studs.
P.S I'll point you to this thread where you can ask Clan (member) if he still has spare ones, Clan is Volvo Tech and obviously knows they can be removed and replaced. So much for your independent, probably just looking for an easy sale of a wheel bearing. LINKY! Last edited by SonyVaio; Jun 12th, 2014 at 17:45. |

My Volvo garage couldn't sell me any but gave me a total of three in the last 2 years. Crud that you can't buy them separately. Next time, I'll convert to longer studs...
