V50 T5 battery died now central locking doesnt work
Hi guys, have an issue where my car wont lock, and the keyless start wont work. Here's what's happened in order:
1. Selling the car so haven't run it much, and it wouldnt start this morning although the electrics were on and various errror codes were coming up. central locking still worked too. 2. Thought it was the keys batteries being low so replaced them (the car has warned me the batteries were low previously anyway, and i did check google in case there was a special process and every site just showed the battery being taken out and a new one put in. simples) 3. the car still wouldn't start and the battery was completely dead now, so got the AA out to recharge the battery for me (had home-start for free). 4. car now starts, BUT ONLY if the key is insterted in the key slot when switching on, whereas before i could use that fake key thing and just keep the key on my body. radio, lights and heating etc... all work fine. 5. central locking also doesn't work though when either manually pressing the door button inside or on the key, and there's an error coming up saying alarm system service required. so, any idea guys? did i nacker the keys when i replaced the batteries or does the car need resetting or something... Would really appreciate any help on this because i'm trying to sell it ASAP as i'm moving abroad. Last edited by mpaver; Dec 21st, 2016 at 17:42. |

I've got the keyless entry & go as well, and have replaced my key batteries with no issues - like you say, simples - so I'm pretty sure it isn't that.
Apart from that though, I'm not going to be much use to you I'm afraid. From previous issues I've read on here, low battery voltage can cause various electrical gremlins on these cars. If the AA guy jump-started your car at all, that might also be a factor. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along shortly. Good luck getting it sorted.

Thanks proghound, at least i can rule out the keys if what you said is anything to go by.
the car has been run for about an hour in total today since the AA came, so it's had plenty of time to put enough holding charge into it. |

Just 5 minutes with a multimeter will verify the above.

the car honestly runs fine pre and post this issue, it's just this issue with the central locking and key-free starting. it seems to me that the car systems have bugged out and might need clearing. i did buy one of those devices to plug in but it could never detect the car. just would prefer to not pay any costs on this thing at the mo.

By all means assume that your electrical system is A1 but multimeters start from around a fiver.
