Question What's this crimp connector called?

Hi,

Is anyone aware what the exact name of this crimp connector is called please?

I depinned it from my S40's rear light cluster, this is in preparation for wiring a second (symmetric) foglight to the other side of the car, I'm trying to do it properly by using the correct connector rather than just jamming it in to make a connection with the wire.

The closest thing I can find is MOLEX connectors but they seem to be much smaller (at least the ones I could see on eBay).

Cheers

If you were to cut it a few inches from the end, SOLDER on the new wire, then you could solder the bit you cut off at t'other end? That'd make it proper permanent.
I'm assuming you're just extending that one wire?

That is simply called a pin

But the brand, model and part number are what you need
Often you can buy pins with a piece of wire attached as a repair kit from Volvo. Ask them.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about this. I'll be tapping the wire on one side and running a new wire into the socket on the other side of the car so need a new pin connector for the new piece of wire. There's an empty slot on the other sides connector.

As in the female pin? To me it's a sort of "hooded" spade connector if that makes sense, but clearly that's not what they're called or I'll have found it by now. I'll try calling Volvo but fear this will be expensive. I was expecting to be able to find a bag of these connectors I could just buy off ebay.. An alternative is going to a breakers yard and snipping this connector off, pulling the pins out and then using an insultated standard spade connector crimp to put my bit of wire on I guess.

When I needed to change one of those multiplugs on my Volvo I went to the local main dealer and bought the plug body and a number of the crimp type connectors for not much money (little enough that I didn't mind then and don't recall how much now). Best tip, don't try 'dry' asembling them into the plug as they are designed to not just pop back out (don't ask me how I know )

My volvo dealer failed to identify them or be able to supply them when I was installing dash cams on my xc70.
Not only that, having bought bags of connectors on ebay that looked as if they would fit and found they did not . I confirm it's a minefield.

My local independent factor lent me his entire stock of connectors and none of them fitted the fuse box. I have a work around for what I needed but it's not the perminent professional job I want so am still looking. I have even tried a Ford dealer as my fuse boxes are marked FoMoCo with no luck.

Paul.

Understood. I thought you were looking to extend that one wire.

These connectors are not usually big enough for two cables I have found, if you want it looking 'pro' then just solder your new cable to the pin where the clamp is, you have plenty of space to flood solder around the cable without stopping the pins clip from working.

Default A word of caution

You may find that the bulb failure warning lamp/message appears when you try out your modified rear lighting set-up. Being of the red-block persuasion I don't know for sure.

V70s, XC60s and others have a balancing resistor for the reed-relay and adding a second 21watt lamp into the circuit unbalances it.

There's an article in an old copy of the "Driver" that details one owner's work-around for the issue. (IIRC it's not quite as simple as by-passing the resistor.)

That is also my understanding. I believe that there is a post somewhere on this forum describing how the second lamp was fitted using a relay in the feed to the first lamp. If I were you, before spending time and patience doing the intended job neat and professionally I would lash up a jury rig to see if the idea worked and didn’t upset anything else.
There is a firm advertising in the Practical Classics magazine which specialise in electrical connectors, multiplugs and cables etc. but I’ve never used them.
