Appreciate your help.

For me sorry to say, it's a bit late as both bulbs have now been replaced in all of around 10 minutes while the good one that came out will be kept as a spare.......just in case.

Interestingly I got both for £20 less (Made by Phillips in Germany) from an alternative outlet to powerbulbs for less than the cost of one from Volvo.

Cheers.

Did you manage to match the bulb type then ? Is it better or worse than before ?

In your last post you mentioned that you're trying to match the Kelvin rating to make sure you don't end up with something dimmer. I don't think the colour temperature is related to brightness, although the blueish tinge on bulbs with a high Kelvin rating can appear to light things up better.

I got the exact same bulb namely 'Philips XenStart D1S 35W Bulb' which is what is on the label on the 'dead bulb' that I removed from the headlight.

Put the name into Google and it came up with the website of the company that are offering it 'Xenons4U'.

The same bulb from powerbulbs is according to them now sold under a different name which is: 'Philips Xenon Vision D1S that is more expensive (£10) while the spec is very close to the Phillips XenStart D1S.

Short wavelength blue light has less penetrative power than longer wave length red light, hence the last light to reach us through the extra atmosphere as the sun dips down to the horizon is red giving us red sun sets. In damp air a more yellow/white light containing a higher proportion of long wavelength light will throw a longer beam than scattered blue light. Blue light looks brighter but keeping the colour temperature towards the 4000° level will be the best compromise for all round beam length. The auto fashionistas like blue tinged bulbs but this harks back to the days when only exotic cars had HID Xenon lights and the early ones tended to look a lot bluer than they do now.

I think that explains why French cars used to have yellow headlights as it was always damp and foggy over there, then the Government changed to rules and new cars lights changed over to white headlights.

While now of course even though yellow lights are better in damp/misty/foggy conditions you see very few cars if any with at least yellow foglights on the front.

Still I am just glad I could get exact replacements for my headlights without having to go 'Spec Matching' with an alternative and ending up with different headlight colours and intensities!

I'll have to see if I've still got the original on the laptop or if I can get them off imageshack. Will look into it this weekend!

Hi,

If it's of any help.

I have a Free Account with Photobucket that I use for uploading pictures to and they have been there for a number of years with no problems of access and remaining there.

Cheers

That's good to know thanks, as when I recently replaced my working but mis-matched pair of bulbs with Osram Xenarc Nightbreaker Unlimited (4300K), I was initially disappointed at the 'warmer' beam.

I think 6000K HIDs are useful for matching the colour of any LEDs that are running alongside them. Fortunately my 'old' car doesn't have any of those daft 'daytime running lights' or whatever they're called.

Can't find the orginals on my laptop and imageshack have deleted my account. Will try and replicate the pics on my next day off.
