Probably a combination of both oil spillages and the rubber gasket on the oil filler cap gone hard...a new one is only a few quid.

Thanks I was wondering if I might need to change the gasket sealant paste holding the cover on too as it seems to be seeping down the side onto the timing belt and sprockets on the left side and also around the plastic disc shaped seal on the oposite end.
Are there seals or fibre washers under the rocker cover bolts because I looks like it might come from behind the bolt heads too.

OBD codes are looking good only one for the dash engine light that needs replacing and another (p1014) which seems to suggest the VVT am I right ?
Apart from that all the others have cleared and stayed clear

From what I recall it's to do with the position of the VVT pulley? Something like it's not positioned correctly and is out of alignment to the rest of the system.

The VVT noise shouldn't create a code as I know mine doesn't

Really ???

Would that be the case even if its ticking over ok ?
Could it be a dodgy VVT solenoid perhaps?

Default vvt solenoid

Hi, I am new to Volvo's, looking at the video of your engine running and my solenoid is fitted to the inlet cam, why is the one in the video fitted to the exhaust cam, I am asking because I have a misfire on cyl. 1and 3 and no matter what I swap over from cyl. 2 and 4 it doesn't make any difference to the misfire showing on my obd reader, is it a sensor somewhere or major cylinder head off job and valves or rings? it has done 173000 mainly motorway miles, and with the mot regs I assume it won't pass with the light on for a engine fault maybe mine is non vvt I'll have to look

What Model, Year and engine is your car?

What have you swapped over between Cylinder 1 and 3? The ignition coils will misfire if fitted to the wrong cylinders so you can't swap them around as a test so it could be an ignition coil fault, Have you checked the compression in all 4 cylinders?

Once got more details on the car can provide further info

Default misfire woes

Well the complete story goes, I got the car with a misfire, bought a obd2 reader, it read the maf was dead so I replaced that and it is showing on the obd2, but it does not start very well, and obd2 says faults 1310,p0301, p0303, I have swapped the coils over, Oh my engine is a 2000, 2ltr non turbo, with 2 coils, no difference, swapped plugs no difference swapped injectors same, the ems light doesn't come on after reset until I rev it, after stopping the engine and pressing the fuel pressure regulator shraeder valve there is no pressure, is this correct? and when running there is pressure but only a low pressure, what is it supposed to be? I did a compression test and got 175 psi after a build up of 8 rev's, not that I wish this on anybody but has anyone had the same problem and what was the fix, I assume the vvt is supposed to be on the inlet side on my engine as the ones I have seen in the manual are fitted on the exhaust side, on the solenoid it has inlet cast on it, bring back a nice reliable side valve lol.
