The five speed holds 7.5 lts of JWS 3309 fluid, £100 from Volvo does not seem enough for a full flush as they were charging £18 a litre. Maybe only the 3.5 ltrs in the sump was changed. Most people seem to use the Vauxhall 93160393 fluid at around £8. The symptoms do sound a bit like a PNP problem have you tried moving the lever through the whole range smartly for around 20 strokes to try and clean the contacts? I still say buying the code reader is the way to go. |

This means that fault codes are stored in the transmission ECU.

Under the dash by drivers right knee you will find a cover marked OBDII.

gearbox limp mode
hi
just looking at your post i have just had a problem with my gearbox fitted to my s80 aw55-05.my car would drive then go into limp mode like yours then ended up in permanent limp mode. I took the front cover off to find a wire was broken on one of the solenoids cant remember which one but had red and blue wires coming from it (previously been soldered but not very well)fixed this and my problem was solved.Bit of a problem getting front cover off you are supposed to drop subframe but i took bolt off front engine mount, removed bottom stabiliser and jacked up engine high enough to remove cover. hope this helps Joe p.s comma asw oil is the same gearbox oil i paid £7 a litre |

latest update, i recived the code reader today and ran the code user, code came up tcm 010f lock up solenoid, i take it the solenoid is in the gearbox? any help on this one thanks rob. this fault is only after 3 mins of starting the car. ggearbox goes into lock mode. before this its ok, when you put it into drive the car creeps forward etc. after about 2 or 3 mins the car locks up into safe mode, question is, is this down to the control module or the solenoid.??

right another update, according to my local auto tranmission repair people the solenoid is in the gearbox, so you have to test the tcu control unit first...

The most of the solenoids are under a steel plate at the front of the gearbox, these can be accessed without removing the box from the car.
You may be lucky and find it's a wiring fault. Have a look here for the diagrams. http://www.mojevolvo.pl/wiki/Volvo_V70 You may also wish to visit a well know auction site and look for Volvo VADIS manuals. Last edited by Chris_Rogers; Mar 11th, 2009 at 18:49. |
