totally agree with this. and if car manufacturers want to keep selling cars, it's their job, not ours, to find alternatives to combustion engines and to the limitation of the electrical grid.
i honestly dont know if the future will be a battery powered electric vehicle but i know that the future won't have any combustion engine in it.

And that per se is a great sell opportunity for car manufacturers because if you think of it, not only technology is changing in cars in a very fast pace but also engine options. What we are buying and is trendy in 2020, the electrical car, may not be in 2030 because there will be other options ahead.

This puts car manufacturers in a good position since tomorrow's cars will have a lifespan of 10 years instead of 15 to 60.

Whilst the current Political drive is a very sudden jerk away from the current ICE drivetrains, once the Electric Car becomes more common and associated charging points are added I still am not convinced that this sudden move is more than a short term political move.
In the UK there are whole areas of major urban areas where the residents live in apartment blocks/terraced houses that have zero access to a charging point outside/near their house - let alone anywhere to even park!

My long term bet for what's its worth is that PetroChemical Companies & Car Manufacturers who are both worried about their long term profitability of their business models are now running heavy R&D projects to allow the continuation of the ICE but with zero CO2 emissions............using Hydrogen as the fuel source.
These key R&D projects will be looking at how to produce Hydrogen in a non CO2 polluting manner - Solar power?
Read.

You can even buy them today:

So whilst I am sure that the next 2nd Car to replace our Petrol Mini in a few years time will be an all Electric City Car (used for short shopping trips, etc) as we have a garage/driveway, etc...............I am a long way off deciding what will replace my latest XC60 T5.
Whilst it will be a Hybrid it will have to have an ICE of some derivative.

Interesting food for debate!

tbh by then I would have thought cars can be driven completely 100%, by itself, so you can own car and just get in it and tap in Destination

When I was in The Hague a few years ago, people had chargers installed on the pavements (a bit like lampposts ). I am sure the same thing could happen here.

Yeah your probably right. Sounds boring though. I still like driving, especially my little Smart car, I use that over and above my XC60 now, which only really gets used if I require more than 2 seats or for holiday's.
I don't think I will be changing either of them anytime soon.
