I recall being told about a chap who worked from home out of Coalville way? He sounded ideal but I never got a number for him.
Thanks, John.
It's Tim Williams he works in coalville, cant get much better than him for work on a volvo

Noah 695 thanks for that chaps name. Any chance of a number or is he on the Internet?
Bonefish we just got home from our 175 mile regular Sunday evening trip in two hours thirty five minutes. It's about thirty miles of windy A road and the rest a mixture of four motorways. I set the trip on the way home for mpg and it did 33.6 mpg. Rarely over 100 mph, generally above 90 mph. It's a D5 with 215 bhp ish according to the book.

I can get something approaching 40 on a journey. She can't. It's just the way she rolls

My wife's car will do 40 mpg- and regularly has if the traffic is heavier and the speed is kept to 70/ 80 mph. We once saw it doing an average of 50 mpg for the motorway section when there were three longgggggg 50 mph restricted roadworks sections. Journey takes forever though and the dogs get restless.

Just to update this old thread I found a good independent in Leicester.
Took my wife's XC70 to Sheffield and Meredith in the city earlier last week.
Got the belts, engine service, gearbox and brake fluid flush and a new headlamp bulb which was eighty quid! Driveshaft gaitor replaced and all the filters including pollen changed. All for under seven hundred quid. Nice straightforward chap runs it,explained everything clearly and patiently and dealt with it all competently. Very pleased. In fact I'm going to entrust my Alfa to him for a job next.
