RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
Does this fit your symptoms?
Quote > Have a 98 S70 GLT 60k miles. Problem the HVAC, which is of the automatic type, have been going into diagnostics mode. The rec and the no A/C light flash. The manual states to take vehicle to dealership to check condition. What happens is I start the car either the fan is already on or I turn the fan on. There is a low roaring sound of the fan (not normal) the fan then quits and the lights flash. This of course is intermittent. When this happens I correct the situation by turing the key from off to on until the fan sounds normal and runs. The shops ask that I bring the car in when the problem exists. This of course is difficult to do since the problem comes and goes. What I am waiting for is total failure, which may not happen. But in the mean time it is very annoying etc.... My guess is either the fan motor is going or whatever electrical or electronic device that controls the fan is failing. Anyone have this type of problem, if so what was the > cure. > > Thanks > Reply These cars have a diagnostic which monitors the amount of current that the heater fan motor uses (among other things). If the computer decides too much current is being used (for a given voltage) it turns the fan off and sets an error code. This protects the electronic fan controller. This sounds like what's happening with your car. Generally the solution is a new heater motor. End quote" If so, some lubrication of the fan moter bearing may help perhaps. |

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
Had the same prob. with my 98 S70 a week after I got it (bought privately) !! Took it to Mill Volvo in Leeds the same day, as the car was misting up (due to rain), so I needed the fan. They cleared the fault codes (interior temp. sensor & int. fan voltage) & told me to see how it went - so far, so good & that's 3 mths ago !! The costs - FOC, so I can only sing Mill's praises, especially as they took it in within an hour of me ringing too !! They did say the aircon needed recharging as well (what a suprise on an S70 !!)at £65 + VAT, which I must get done, although I'm sure that will lead to a 1001 parts needing replacing on the system !!
I think Volvo want tw__ting over the aircon / ECC systems in the 850/70 series as they must be the most unreliable ones in any car on the road. I am also concerned about common auto gearbox failures too - apparently S80 are only lasting 80K in some cases!! I think Volvo seem to be substituting styling for reliability !! Cheers, John.

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
I wonder if removeing the battery for a while will reset the ECU. I think this is the only issue with mine aswell. I must say, the S70 doesnt feel as solid as the 850 I last had. Even though it's a great car, there's something not right???? There's a slight annoying rattle underneath on the passenger side at speed. Cant be arsed getting underneath in this weather though. Surely Volvo should fix any of these dodgey aircon faults without charge! Might have to try 'Dare I say it' a BM 5 series next time.

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
Must admit, although pleased with the car on the whole, with all the faults being posted about these cars I might get a VW Passat next time - I haven't heard of many faults with their products !
Is it me & a just few other's or has Volvo lost it with medium/long term reliability ? John.

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
Check out Parkers.co.uk, and look for readers reports. I don't think the new Passat is the best in the world either. Dodgey locks, part failing left, right, n center. I know there expensive to run, but my mates Scooby has done 160k without missing a beat. I guess ya get dodgey cars of any model. I bet there's a few Volvo owners who havent had any problems whatsoever. I guess were just unlucky.
Oh! And my turbo is a lot louder than on the old 850, hope this is normal. Merry Christmas to all who replied. Have a goodun :o) S70 T5 CD.....Bog Standard |

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
I DONT BELIEVE IT! (a-la Victor Meldrew) On Christmas morning (Of all days) I was going to the in-laws, started the car, as I set off, I tried the aircon as ususal, and.......the bloody thing started working again!!!!! What the hell is going on?????
All I can think of, is that the car has not been in my garage for a couple of nights, where, there is a tumble dryer, venting into the garage, causing damp in the air, or is it just coincidence, OR did Santa pop round and sort it whilst I slept! Well! who cares, it works....Merry Christmas one and all :o) S70 T5 CD.....Bog Standard |
