Default Courtesy Light help please

Can anyone help or give some advice please.

The courtesy light and the little red light on the doors (when there open) have stopped working but only on the drivers side.

The passenger sides (both front and back) are fine - It is only the drivers side that seem to be faulty. I checked the fuse and as there is only one for both sides so it was not that.

I have looked to see if there was some sort of contact on the doors (like the old plunger thingy) but there seems to be nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Jeff

From what opthers have said in the past, I believe that these cars have the contactsin the door lock mechanism themselves. The tail gate on my 440 has it all internal, a bit of contact cleaner worked wonders on it, bringing light back to the boot..

The microswitches are indeed incorporated in the door lock assembly.
I have read somewhere that they can be replaced if you wish to unsolder several small wires etc.. The central locking motor can be damaged during this process, so it is advisable to leave it to the experts.
I have recently had my drivers door lock assembly replaced, (not unlocking with remote) at a cost of £180.00 !!!

I good first try is to use WD40 or similar on the lock.
Have a look at volvospeed.com for the other fix.

Thanks all for your advice!

Over the weekend I gave the lock a spray of wd40 and........not alot happened.

Although, when I gave the lock a tap with a screwdriver the little red light and the courtesy light sprang back to life, so it definately is sticking.

It still does not work on opening the doors.

Could anyone guide me on what I need to do to release/clean the thingy in order to get it working again.

Once again, thanks for all you advice.

Jeff

As I said with the boot all I dod was keep working it with contact cleaner until it worked fine. This took many pushes with a screwdriver, and about 15 mins (it started to work just at the point when I was going to give up). Once working then use the WD to keep it working, and remember to look after it regularly. If you keep at it it *should* start to work......

Good Luck,

Stu
