Default Lower mpg beginning of journey

Hi folks

Is it just me or is the mpg lower when cold.
I avidly watch the mpg and its on instantaneous 99% of the time.
I have noticed that it doesnt hit the 50's - 70's (mpg) on a flat at 56mph until about 10 mins into the journey.
That time is a rough guestimate, what i can say for sure is that for a 20min journey of roughly 14 miles as seen in the image, the MPG stays low for a good portion of it.

Im not really complaining here as i lknow that the MPG is pretty much pants for this Vulva, just wondering if there is a specific reason for this?

My "guess” at why (purely a layman's take on it).

In the old days, a manual choke, which was needed with a cold engine, would cut off or cut down the intake of air, increasing the % of fuel in the combustion mix.

As the same amount of combustion mix was required for a set number of rpm, it follows that more fuel is needed. Now with FI, this is done automatically, but I would expect the result to be the same.

But no doubt a proper explanation will be provided by someone more knowledgeable than I!

There are a few hundred kilograms of motor, gearbox, exhaust and coolant that have to be heated up to optimal temperature and it's not free.
