Default lumpy power delivery v70 163

hi all,

just swapped out the intercooler on my 163hp '05 v70, bought my MPG up a bit, but still finding i get minimal boost to about 2k rpm then from about 2.5k suddenly get loads of boost and goes flying. Any ideas what to do next? Have replaced MAF sensor, and cleaned/tested the MAP which is within tolerance.

Next on my list when it stops raining is to clean out the boost control valve and little air grill (one behind the air intake chunky hose). Could it be that simple or is there something else to look at?
