Default Load Carrying in a V70 Classic

I've got a 2000my V70 Classic that is subjected to carrying a fair amount of load at times; not constantly but it will be driving to France and back again with nearly all my possessions and often is heading around the UK in a similar way...

However, it does not have Self Levelling suspension, so the steering is a little interesting!!!

Have people got any experience of some of the after market options for stiffening the suspension for load carrying? I have memories of my dad running 960's with "interesting" suspension c/o Volvo Fleet management (960 ambulance shocks were a standard modification for his cars before they got to him!) and the slightly hard ride that gave when empty, and the need to drive around the block to sort them out before loading, and I'm trying to avoid that.

At present I'm looking at the spring assisters that can be bought from Towsure for about £50 a side, have people got any other suggestions?

Monroe Load Levellers, basically an air assisted shock absorber, blow em up with an air line for heavy loads let em down for normal loads. Other than that you could retro fit Nivomat self levellers as mentioned in another post.

Hi Paddler, I am a bit late on this post, but just to say, I wouldn't worry about any fancy load levelers, I have just driven my old bird from Glasgow down to Felixstowe with a gross weight of 2.25 tones without a prob. I just up'd the tyre pressure to 45psi and she floated along, just make sure you have a good set of tyres though.
She has just left in a 20' container back to Aus still loaded as seen, so it will be interesting to see if the springs bounce back up when I unload her in 6 weeks time!!

Thanks for that Aus T5; I've got the challenge of driving down to the south of france with mine loaded so I might still go for some self levelling in it (and possibly some new brake discs as mine are supposed to be ok for about another 3k miles
