S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
Hello there,
Is this a commom problem. My ECC has packed up. It did it a couple of weeks ago, but start working again after a while, but has packed in again. It comes on for a few seconds,(very sluggish), then goes off and the orange lights flash on the heater panel. If I set it to AUT there is nothing. The manual says the dreaded " Consult your dealer" Anyone have any ideas / experiences, before i "Consult the Dealer" S70 T5 CD.....Bog Standard |

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
Sadly not - the fault codes need to be read and the kit to do this usually resides at dealers or non-franchised Volvo specialists.
The latter is often the less expensive option, though if you have a mechanical breakdown warranty, check first who can service your car. It's often a temperature sensor or flap/fan motor actuator gone south, though of course it could be the dreaded evaporator.... If you haven't used your air conditioning for a long time, it could also be a leak caused by dried-up hoses. The gas carries a hose lubricant, and if the aircon isn't used for a month or so, the hoses and joints dry up and leak when the aircon is started up again. |

The air con will not set ECC faults.
Try having a look at the fan motor resistor, a common fault on 70's. But really you do need to have the codes read to point you in the right direction. |

It's behind the glove box near / on the fan.
Should be able to reach it by removing the cover under the glove box. I think Haynes actually covers this in their S/V70 manual. |

have you tried operating the a/c without using the AUT function? This would also tell you if fan or the resistor have failed.
I dont think also that lack of refridgerant (as in leaking evaporator) will make the AC OFF and REC lights flash as it is not an 'electronic' fault. Even if it is the evap, it's easy to change anyway!! |

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
It won't do anything with any option selected. Just comes on at a constant speed for a few seconds then shut off. The odd thing is, is that I bought a manual, removed the glove box, only to find that the pictures of the resistor dont match my resisitor (if thats what it is)
Mine has two seperate plugs on it and a bloody big heat sync. Is it because mine is ECC and not just aircon???? Does anyone know, cos it doesnt say in the manual. How much are they, has anyone bought one??? S70 T5 CD.....Bog Standard |

RE: S70 T5 ECC Problems...AGAIN!
what you're describing should be the resistor - I cant recall Volvo's price - I have a vague recollection that it was about £105............maybe..........
I wonder if you could bridge it out, that would normally be the obvious thing to do on any old blower motor - but probably not a good idea as its computer controlled!!! Do you know anyone you could 'swap' with? And while you're at it, you could swap the ECC control panel - as its out of the dash in 5 seconds flat. Also, having no refridgerant in the system wouldnt stop the fan working - so forget about that for now! |
