Default Parking Assist Module

Hi ladies and gents.

Just a quickie request today for my 2003 xc90.
Many months of Parking assist service reqd message. Checked sensors with the aid of David (found through these very pages) in Emsworth and his VIDA DICE setup. Tks. All sensors working OK but can’t communicate with PAM. Take out and inspect, pcb is green and solder has disintegrated. Replacement from 2006 model from Silverlake scrapyard £40, nice no signs of damage on the board. Plugged in. Message still up. No working sensors. Do I have to plug in Vida again to reinitialize the PAM as a battery reset has not worked?

Thankyou for any help anyone can be with this.

Thanks Colin, I was hoping that the fact that VIDA could communicate and check the sensors and have them show as ok meant I could avoid taking the bumper off.
Could well be the next step.

When you activate the reverse, do the sensors work ? i.e. bleep when your close to an object ?

IRC the notice on my car went out after a while, not immediately, after i replaced the rear sensors.

Is the PAM the exact same unit number, a straight swap ?

Once you have replaced a faulty control module, you should always interrogate it with VIDA to check it's status.
So that's always the first step.
It will tell you immediately if the module is alive and talking
Then you can check the sensors and see if the module is happy with the sensors.

Without VIDA, you are basically operating blind...

Thought as much. Module number was different and from a 2006 XC90 Although I did pull it apart and look at the PCB layout, they look identical. I thought it may just be a superseding part.
I may have to pay my fellow forumite Dave another visit. I had hoped the unit was just a flashed rom device that could be reset with battery out and in.

Additional note - External/Ambient temperature sensor. Left or right side wing mirror?

Unfortunately the Volvo CAN bus changes device addresses almost per model year.
The PAM sits on a LIN bus from the REM, I don't know if the LIN bus devices change addresses as often as the CAN bus devices.

It may be that your replacement PAM is perfectly functional but the programmed device address is different (which you cannot change)
VIDA will confirm if it can communicate with the PAM

So you really need to hunt for identical part number replacement units.

Left wing mirror = ambient temp sensor for ECM engine control module
Right wing mirror = ambient temp sensor for CCM climate control module
