Park brake release handle. HELP !!
Hi guys I need your help. My car is booked in for its dreaded 12 monthly tomorrow. After a few headaches and a lot of swearing (I'll post about that later😠 I went to release the park brake and pull off the drive and the release handle appears to have "snapped" or come off the cable without releasing said parking brake. Is the anyway I can release the brake with the snapped handle or is it a case of re-book my mot and source and fit new handle? Ive never had one of these park brakes of this set up before as most of my previous cars have been vauxhall or ford. Also how do you remove the handle from the dash ?
TIA, Paul 😊 |

Sorry, can't help. I have the same car, but not experienced this. Have you tried looking under the dash board to see where the fixings are to remove it?

Replacement handles available on line - Google is your friend (as usual)
https://www.wilkinmotorparts.co.uk/p...elease-handle/ I'd have thought you ought to be able to locate the cable under the dash (near the handle obviously) and give it a pull with pliers to release handbrake. MOT guy might not be too keen however... Good Luck Cheers Dave |

Thinking about this you might be able to realise it down at the foot pedal as that is all that cable does. Mind your fingers if you do. It should be straight forward to get the handle out as most things on the car are very well designed for installation/removal

Easy replacement. There are 2 torx bolts below the handle itself. Torx25 I think
Undo these and the handle pulls straight out of the dash. It comes in 2 parts, The 1st part where the cable attaches then that slides into the release part where you pull the handle. They slide together then place back into the dashboard and replace the torx bolts. They can snap where the cable attaches to the handle. |

Thanks for all your help guys. I just didnt know how to approach it as Ive never had this park brake set up before. Ive had it apart and found that it doesnt seem to have snapped as first feared, the outer sheath of the cable has either jumped over the bracket or pulled through the middle. Ive placed it back where it should be and it seems to be working ok now. Im gonna keep my eye on it though.
I never realised that the "dash end" comes off to reveal fuses etc lol |

My MOT man doesn't even bother testing the handbrake on mine, he knows they're absolutely useless on these cars.
