Default Volvo V70 TDI It's puzzle time !

Hy Guys,

Nice to meet you. I'm a newbie and I come with some questions about my V70 TDI.

I had recently a serpentine belt crash. The pulley tensioner, the serpentine, the pulley guide were probably all of them in fault. I've decided to replace all that stuff. The problem is that the last owner, certainly not a gentleman has worked as a p*g. Some screws threads were not re usable...

Rather than piercing and so, I've decided to change the mounting accessories.
A used but good condition one should be here this week. I have some newbie questions.

The pulley tensioner has 2 "6 pans - Allen" screws, a long one and a short one. Which one goes on the top of the pulley tensioner ?

Between the pulley tensioner and the engine, there's a mount supposed to protect the oil filter. What is the right sens to install it :
1.screw ->thread of the oil filter mount ->thread of the pulley tensioner -> engine ?
or
2.screw ->thread of the pulley tensioner -> thread of the oil filter mount -> engine ?

Could it be useful to put some Loctite 242 (blue one) when reassembling screws to the engine ?

I do thank anyone who will allow me to enlarge my knowledgement on my car. And by the way I apologize for my English, in general, under torture, I speak in a mess...

Best regards.

I replaced this bracket on my car some time back.

I can't remember the exact configuration of everything, but I would have thought that the diagram you have provided would be a good reference for how to reassemble everything.

According to your diagram, these two tensioner pulley bolts/screws are the same length. Possibly the previous owner changed the bolts. You could try replacing the bolts with ones which correspond to the original length, however as long as they hold the tensioner securely in place without fouling any other parts, they should be fine to use.

(Just like in the diagram.)

I didn't use loctite on my bolts when reassembling everything, but if you want to use some it won't cause any problems.

Hy Petrohl34d,

I do not know how to thank you so much for your answer.

It's very cool from your part to have confirmed what I'm going to do for a work.

Vraiment, merci.

about the Loctite, some of the accessories mount screws were colored by blue Loctite, that's the reason.

Do consider that I've made a bit room in my fridge for your next beer...

The pulley tensioner on my 1998 Tdi also has two Allen bolts of differing length and I know they are the original bolts. Rather unhelpfully, I can't remember which way round they went...

Hy Martin Cox,

Thanks a lot to you too for confirming my mind.

As i 've unscrewed the bracket already, I will test the two length on the engine.

I begin to say to me that I 'll have to put a new shelf in my fridge to stock beers...

Hope my wife will accept to remove one of her wine bottles...

Hopefully this picture from when I had mine in bits may help.

Hey Martin,

Of course it helps. Thanks a lot.

Your timing belt was out at this time... It looks like my hair cut. Something misses...

It's really cool, to find some help this way. I began to believe that every human used to leave this planet.

Merci.

The timing belt was indeed off. The picture will explain why...

And here's the damage that occurred when it broke.

However I did get it all back together and the car is running very well now.

Well... The pictures speaks by itself.

I've never tried to install a timing belt. My knowledges are too thin actually.

Each thing at its time. I will probably try to build a tutorial on the work I' will realize with this "puzzle re-assembling".

Hope it will be helpful for a couple of dudes.
