Default V60 D3 fuel consumption

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what fuel consumption is about right for a V60 D3 R Design. I've just bought a 2011 model. I'm getting about 36mpg on mixed driving. On motorway runs I can get just about get 39-40. Does this seem normal, seems a bit low to me?

could be better , switch to instantaneous fuel consumption and watch that , it will show where you are going wrong ( And right ) with your fuel usage .. remember to AVERAGE 50 mpg it is going to spend a lot of time showing around 70 mpg , what is your average speed by the way? less than 40 isnt good for fuel consumption ..

Mid 50's A roads, low 50's 80-85 ish M way, averaging around 50 overall with very little town driving.

I have a MY2012 (registered June 2011) V60 D3 ES with the 215/55 16 wheels, and have averaged 46.9mpg measured at the pump - not on the trip computer - over the past 3 years and 39,000 miles.

I get 50+mpg on the motorway, cruising at 80-odd and early 40s in town / urban driving, so I'd say your mpg is a little low.

What wheels/tyres do you have? If they're wide and low profile, your mpg will be a bit less ...

My car is '11 S60 R-design D3.
18" 235/40 wheel tyre combo, you can see my average fuel consumption from November last year in my sig. below.

Worst was high 20's to the gallon, best is 46.84mpg real mpg but that did include a flat out stint. I'm about to do a 1500+ mile round trip with a roof box on, limited to 80MPH. It'll be interesting to see what the real world MPG is.

I have an October 2011 R-Design d3 (163 bhp). My general average is approx 42mpg. Includes quite a bit of urban and some motorway driving. Most of the time it goes on a local school/nursery runs and then between Warrington and Trafford Park near the Trafford Centre for work, so a 'mixed journey'. A couple of times a week it goes into Manchester City Centre, which does not help.

On decent motorway runs, approx 50mpg is acheived. it does not do as good as the manufacturer's figures suggests!

I feel my car's economy is good for what it is, with decent power and the nice 5 cylinder sound.

Yours does sound a little low. Has it had a volvo service with software updates recently? Maybe try some Miller's eco diesel additive.

Make it 65 mph for a big improvment , will it really make much difference to the journey time rushing from one hold up to the next?

Alot of people do not realise that the manufacturer isnt allowed to produce MPG figures , It is the Government who produce the figures ... The main purpose is to COMPARE one model or make against another , rather than say what you will get . All the makes and models are tested on exactly the same journeys and conditions dicated by a computer program .
However it IS possible to get their upper figures , but you must stay around 55mph for some distances preferably on the flat , Hills are a killer if you live in a hilly district .

For my longer journeys I'm usually looking at 11 hours overnight when there are no queues. Knock 10mph off that's the difference between still driving the Newcastle bypass or sitting in Edinburgh with my feet up and a cup of tea.
