Default Red warning light - oil

I recently got my car back from the garage where they have installed a new cylinder head.

Driving to my friend's house today I got a dash message saying my oil level was low and I needed to put 0.5 l in.

On the return journey (only a few miles), I got a red warning light that accompanied the message.

I assume that this red warning light is only related to the oil level?

Also you would have kind of thought that the garage would have topped up the oil after putting the engine back together?!?!???!!! Might it suggest a leak?

Did you put any oil in, after the warning message and before the return trip?

Yup, so it went from orange to red in matter of miles. Probably on red for about 10 mins before shutting off (I was in a place I couldn't stop)

I'd be very careful adding more. Did the garage do an oil change when they changed the head ? Did they check & then reset the electronic Oil level system when the oil was refilled ?
