I have found bosch part number 0 986 280 401 through autodoc for £24.86. I'll see if my local can get one in.
That should do or you can buy one of these instead :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuel-Part...y/164082105163

Same item available as :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lemark-LC...y/153832797918

and.......

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Crankshaf...5/203083882067

It's one of the less critical components (unlike the CTS and Lambda sensors that need to have Bosch OE stuff) so pattern parts work fine for this one.

have ordered a pile of parts including crank sensor, v belts, handbrake shoes (hopefully the correct ones), mahle thermostat and some brake and clutch pedal rubber covers.
car has been running well, still got high idle after motorway driving and no speedo but will get around to this over the next few weeks.
i have had a surprising mpg result averaging 40.1mpg over a tank - 434.40 miles 49.248 L 40.10 mpg...i log it all on fuelly because i am sad.
i have checked my distances several times and believe i am correct but i still dont believe the result. time will tell if i get the same result again. it was mostly 60-65mph on the motorway 40 miles each way on back to back days... after fitting new lambda sensor. i am not sure i have heard of a 940 returning this mpg. ill try it again some day see if i can do it again, until then i am not sure it is correct.
drove to north wales and back the other day at 70-75 mph ~3000 ish rpm and returned 32mpg ish.

It's about right really Mark, i used to get 35mpg on a run from my old 740GLE which had the K-Jetronic injection and i wasn't quite so light-footed as Sam. Mostly around the 70-75mph point on motorways/dual carriageways so comparable with his 32mpg at that speed.
I have seen 37mpg out of my 760 on normal A roads over a 60 mile each way trip. That said i was pussy-footing it that day because it was cold and icy but figures like that are possible on n/asp engines. Should theoretically be possible on turbo engines as well but only with very careful driving! Doesn't take much to spool the snail up and the engine then demands more fuel to satisfy its thirst!

I know i'm not at the moment , somewhere between 20-26mpg, depending on the weather. Where the fuel rails sit in the Vee on mine i think it's boiling the petrol (increasing the pressure) so pushing it down the return line that is a big loop of rubber hose ~700mm long from the centrally mounted FPR to the return line that is only a few inches away from the left hand exhaust manifold.
That returns to the tank as vapour then escapes to atmosphere through the breather system.

The ~700mm long rubber hose has perished in 2-3 years so i've ordered some more and some heat reflective sleeving to go over it. First it should protect the hose from heat so it doesn't perish so quickly and second, should help to reduce the boiling effect.
Next step is to order some bigger sleeving to go over the fuel rails and fuel flow lines and the final step will be to fit a pair of aluminium heat shields onto the lips formed by the chassis and inner wing flanges which should help reduce the temperature around the fuel lines.

You can see why the weather is having an effect! In case you're wondering, mine is too early for the charcoal canister recovery system that traps the fuel vapour and recycles it through the engine to save fuel and protect the environment.
If i can mitigate that with heat-protective sleeving so much the better!

I once managed 40mpg in my 940 but it was 30mph driving during the middle of the day so I didn't have to do any stop starting.

Next best is my wife and son in the car with the boot full of luggage going in holiday to Cornwall, 250 mile trip and I drove 70-80mph and got 35mpg IIRC.

When I was commuting 60 miles a day in my 240GLT auto I certainly could see the fuel gage dropping. By Thursday afternoon needed some more as getting low! Thankfully only lasted 4 weeks as doing a customers ensuite.

My 1996 940 LPT I have never calculated, suspect not fantastic being auto and I do drive briskly to the speed limit. Currently commuting 26 miles a day and guess using £30-40 over 5 days.

For what it costs in fuel it more than makes up for it in being low maintenance, reliable and ease of maintenance.
