Default V40 Rear Wiper

Just a quick question...

I just replaced the rear wiper blade and holder because the wipe pattern looked like a sort of "butterfly shape" like a figure 8 on the side, thinking it was the blade which was knackered - problem is even with the new blade its exactly the same!

Is it normal for the V40 rear window to wiper like that? Any ideas to get a better wipe as its hard to see out of!

Thanks

Yup, mine does that too, it's a V40 thing!
Think Volvo should have provided a modified/stronger sprung wiper arm by now!

There is a quick fix for this. Remove the complete arm and look where the arm pivots. You will see there is a slight 'bulge' that acts as a stop, carefully grind/file this 'stop' away a bit at a time so it allows the arm to go a bit further towards the window. You will now find it wipes right to the top.

Ah ha, a cunning ploy, will try this before parting with more wedge at the main stealers! Well done that man!

Just tried this - seems to do the trick!

You don't need to take off very much to make a difference

I'd imagine as the spring ages further I might need to do it again at some point.

Is this the bit that needs filing?
