I've wondered that ,easily picked up with a software addition . But the problem died away after 2007 just after they realised there was a small problem , so I guess they could not justify the cost .

I am not sure but it's better to keep the battery disconnected while the module is not connected. It may trigger an SRS message (maybe others can confirm)

Lukas at VolvoDiagnostic does a DEM repair service for around £140 I believe and if it's beyond fixing, he'll supply a refurbished replacement one for around £360... and sends your old one back so he's not pulling any fast ones. Brilliant service, highly recommended. Replacement is around 30mins on a ramp, the four torx bolts can seize in place so good luck and need to be careful that the shunt value and pressure sensor are refitted perfectly.
There are checking procedures on line... basically first is to check the fuse in the REM, if ok then you need to check you're getting power to the DEM and then also put 12v over the pump to ensure it's not seized and if all that is good, chances are it's the DEM that needs replaced. It's also worth considering removing the pump (prop needs to come off) and clean it out, replace the filter and refresh the fluid too. It needn't be as expensive as some say... just do the checks and if it's the DEM, give Lukas a shout and he'll sort you out with one at a fraction of the cost. http://volvodiagnostic.com/shop/inde...uct&id_lang=1# You can't drive the car with the DEM removed, the Haldex fluid will **** out and I'd recommend Lukas over BBA... have no experience of the latter but the general consensus is Lukas is just better all round. With a faulty DEM , many systems on the car won't function correctly and as you already know, it'll fail an MOT too. When the splines go on the angle gear sleeve it doesn't flag any fault codes, so if electronically all is well but you have no AWD... high chance it's the sleeve and possibly even the transfer box that have failed mechanically. Good luck with it... it's a frustrating process but not impossible. Last edited by Turbodave; Aug 5th, 2018 at 23:47. |

Have finallly sorted my problem, got a reconditioned DEM from Volvo Diagnostics online for £360, today I fitted it and the light has gone so all back to normal and not paid the £1800 Volvo wanted to charge me, and they also stated that a used reconditioned one would not work, so thanks for that Volvo, glad I came on here and sought advice, also the old one that was taken off I shall some point get restored for £140 and either use it as a back up or sell it on.
