Rear passenger door window manual up/down mechanism v stiff
Hello
Newly acquired V40, 17 years old running almost as new! Very pleased! One minor issue: rear passenger door window wind up/down mechanism (manual, not electric) is very stiff, particularly for my young daughter - I would like to ease the mechanism for her if possible Have found a video on youtube showing how to remove and replace the rear door trim to access mechanism - looks straightforward although not tried yet. Before I proceed to take the door apart, any tips on how to ease the manual window winding mechanism would be very much appreciated ... Many thanks J |

Hello!
First thing I would do, before taking anything apart, is spray some silicone lubricant in the window guides. So wind the window all the way down and spray the edges where the window runs in, then wind the window up and down a few times and see if it eases. Mine is also a bit stiff, but I think that's just how they are. I imagine the idea is to prevent the window slowly vibrating down by itself, something the Vauxhall Corsa and Land Rover Defender like to do with their very slack mechanisms. Martin

Clean all the dirt and grime and muck out of the guides first, and clean the glass that moves up and down the guides
Then spray with silicon lubricant Can make a world of difference

Hi there
Thanks for your help - followed suggestions, has helped somewhat - suspect the mechanism will remain a challenge for my daughter till she gets older/stronger I must say what a fantastically helpful forum this is Have a good weekend P |
