Default Video Guide: Rear Main Seal Replacement (part 1 of 2)

You could sit down and watch the extended version of Lord of the Rings parts 1, 2 or 3 or maybe...watch a rear main seal replacement video...?

I have a lot more respect for folks who do these youtube videos well. What a pain in the a$$.

Here is part one. I hope this helps someone out there.

Wow. That is a big job and what makes it even greater is that you filmed the whole thing which makes it much harder. People don't realise how hard it is is to do things, then remove gloves wash hands and re-position camera.

I watched the video in fast forward and skipped a few bits, as I have done this job once before and it's a pig of a job, specially when done on your drive without a lift etc. The hardest thing in the whole process will have to be the lowering and removal of the gearbox, as the way Volvo designed the car, there is not enough clearance due to the subframe.

Having done this job though, I am sure you have learned so much about the car, as you had to pretty much remove everything.....lol

Well done

Silly question, but at 36.22, you can get a glimpse of the dipstick. Correct me if I am wrong, but is it red and plastic? Or is it metal?

Thank you for the comments, Gatos. Not sure what was harder, the job itself, or trying to retain enough patience to record and edit the video! On numerous occasions I would take the time to find the best position for the camera only to find out that either a) my head was then in the way of good footage or b) the camera was point e too low or too high and I didn’t get the footage I wanted!!!The dipstick that you see at 36-22 is red (handle) and metal (oil dipstick). The transmission oil dipstick is shorter, yellow and plastic.

1:46-1:50. Those plastic connectors are too easy to snap when trying to wiggle out the gearbox

And that turbo intake hose is so annoyingly in the middle of the frame at 1:56 onwards...lol

2:22:40 Quote: "Holy sh!t, this is crazy" lolololol. What happened there?
