I had this issue with my car, I didn't do anything and it resolved itself. So I'm guessing it was a faulty connector (probably the bonnet one). A quick way to test the siren is to lock the car with the fob and unlock the drivers door with the key. As soon as you do the alarm will go off (it is very, very loud).

Thanks all. I’ve just raised the bonnet and locked the car then release the micro switch but no sound. Does that mean it’s the siren?

Ordinarilly, the alarm will arm if it's armed with the bonnet closed. The alarm will sound if any doors are opened, including the bonnet. This is normal behaviour.

Here's the clever bit. If the alarm is armed while the bonnet open, the rest of the doors remain sensed, and the alarm will sound if one of them is opened, but it ignores the bonnet. This has been tested many times, for example if I'm charging the battery, or performing work on the engine and can't close the bonnet for whatever reason overnight.
How odd! What year is your phase 1, Canis? Mine's a 1998, but 1997-ish model year (love the Dutch).

As I said, mine just throws it's hands in the air and gives up if the bonnet is open. I'll go and unlock the door with the key, or even pull the locking pin up if the window is open, and all the doors unlock with a couple of wins from the indicators. And then the interior light comes on to welcome the thieves in!

Is this still happening? Here is what you need to do:

Open the bonnet, and leave it open. Close all doors and windows. Arm the alarm using the fob, not they key. The alarm should lock the doors for you. After a few seconds, the dashboard alarm LED will blink occasionally to deter theives.

Use the key, NOT THE FOB, to unlock the door. Open the door. The alarm should sound.

Does it? Or not?

Do this for both doors, then report back what happens.
