Default Polestar....

There is an interesting and apparently, in part, well informed thread here on Pistonheads https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1760889

The comments about the actual workings of these Haldex awd systems rather cut across Volvo's claims for stuff branded with the P* monika. Fact is that Polestar had a pretty shabby record of false claims to a long and illustrious heritage under its previous somewhat questionable ownership and patronage that had in fact been writ large by other, earlier and very effective Volvo contractors...... TWR, Prodrive, Flash Engineering, and last but not least the modest but highly regarded Motor Design.

Allegedly, not apparently. The top gear article is an uninformed plug, dealers have a history of making things up when it comes to polestar. So far I see nothing solid indicating more rear wheel bias.

I suggest you read the press release from a week ago and you will find it is true … suitable for new cars from August 2018 so now on line ..

"Plug-in hybrid models including T8 Twin Engine and T6 Twin Engine derivatives, which feature an electric rear axle drive (ERAD) system that utilises electric power only on the rear wheels, already provide a rear-drive bias and do not require further AWD optimisation"

I would like too see more evidence of that, if you have all 300+ pulling on the front, and the max 90 odd pushing on the back? I am not convinced.

That is one very badly, bordering on misrepresentative, written press release! How can a T8 have rear drive bias already when it can only send 90ps to the rear wheels?

Whilst I would concur with you on the volume of hot air within Volvo chinese press releases, it might have supported their case if they had used the more appropriate torque figure in this context. With that electric motor you may well see a torque figure better related to the front mounted IC engine output....

I agree totally! Would be amusing if the rear torque bias increase was such a small increment that it would be imperceptible.

Volvo habitually make things up about stuff offered under the P* name .... don't blame it on the poor bloody dealers.

Just a few years ago P* was a shabby PR fuelled construct when privately owned and a contractor to Volvo who only bought it and subsumed it as an associated brand to avoid some pretty devious dealings between a Volvo director and the previous owner coming to light.

The owner of a long established Swedish motorsport contractor of impeccable repute enquired of me in conversation at that time whether I was of an age to remember the custodial sentence passed on one John Davenport for fraud when he was, in the late '70's, the executive in charge of British Leyland's motorsport activities. That, in order to put in context for me the shabby goings on that required Volvo to buy the P* brand and concurrently part company with said director........... they got away with that coming more generally to light..... unlike BL that made no bones about going for their corrupt senior employee, albeit many years ago and in maybe a more litigeous country.
